Happy New Ears, The End

Blindman Saxophone Quartet opened the very first edition of Happy New Ears on 26 April 1996. Over a period of fourteen years Happy New Ears evolved from a festival at the former Limelight arts centre to an independent and internationally renowned festival for new music and sound art. In October 2008 The Wire wrote: «Kortrijk's Happy New Ears festival is establishing a reputation for itself as one of Europe's premier sound art festival». The future is so bright we have to wear shades!

However, on Sunday 27 September 2009 Hildur Gudnadottir & BJ Nilsen will perform the last Happy New Ears concert ever.

From 2010 onwards we embark on a new adventure: Happy New Festival of Flandres Kortrijk. A new festival including classical, contemporary classical and adventurous music as well as sound art.
